DESCRIPTION:The Social  Policy Association’s Tax and Social Policy Group is holding its inaugural in person Conference on Wealth Inequality\, Tax and Social Policy in the New Year.\n\nRegistration is via Eventbrite:\nhttps://www.eventbrite.ie/e/wealth-inequality-tax-social-policy-tickets-1105436503339\n\n\nThe event is free\, and participation is not confined to group or SPA members.\n\n\nThe conference will take place on:\nDate: Thursday 16th January 2025\nTime: 10.30am  to 3.45pm (10.30 arrival for a 10.45m start)\nVenue: Marshall Building – Room 2.10\nLondon School of Economics\n44 Lincoln’s Inn Fields\nLondon WC2A 3LY\n\n\nMorning Speakers:\n\n\nMike Savage\, Professorial Research Fellow\, International Inequalities Institute\, and lead for the Wealth\, Elites and Tax Justice theme at the London School of Economics.\n\n\nRajiv Prabhakar\, Senior Lecturer in Personal Finance at the Open University. His research has included wealth taxation and financial inclusion and he is author in 2021 of the book Financial Inclusion: Critique and Alternatives (Policy Press).\n\n\nAfternoon Panel contributors include:\n\n\nAndy Morrison\, Director of UK National Audit Office\, Newcastle\n\n\nAndy Summers\, Director of the Centre for the Analysis of Taxation and Associate Professor in Law\, London School of Economics. Andy’s research focuses on the evaluation and design of tax policies\, particularly those affecting top earners and wealthy individuals.\n\n\nSarah Kerr\, Research Fellow\, International Inequalities Institute\, and member of the Wealth\, Elites and Tax Justice theme at the London School of Economics\n\n\nThe conference examines:\n\n\n\nthe ways in which taxes in the past and in the present have contributed to unequal wealth holdings\nhow taxes could tackle wealth inequality\nwhy governments of any political persuasion find this a difficult policy area\nand knowledge gaps requiring further research (or what a research agenda in this area must address).\n\n  \nThe conference will be of particular relevance to you if:\n\nyou are interested in the inequality and the relationship between wealth and poverty\nyou are interested in the role of taxes in delivering social outcomes\nyou are interested in knowledge gaps which hinder the delivery of more just social policies.\n\n\n\nThe event is funded by the Social Policy Association and lunch and refreshments will be provided. Financial assistance towards the cost of travel for PhD students is available.\n\n\nThe room is accessible by wheelchair.
