SUMMARY:University of Edinburgh webinar on Public Services and Options for Local Taxes 
DESCRIPTION:Taxation and Social Policy: Local Taxation \nPublic services organised and run by many Local Authorities have been significantly affected for over a decade by the cuts in the Central Government Grant they receive. This has led to an increase in the role of local taxation and raises questions about what options there are for new local taxes or reforming existing local taxes in ways which are fair and effective in revenue-raising. \nThe Taxation and Social Policy Group are organising a webinar on \nPublic Services and Options for Local Taxes \nTuesday January 31st 2023 – 12.45 – 2pm \nMichael Orton\, Warwick University\, will speak about current local taxes\, including variation around the UK\, and will give an overview of some of the options for reform. \nEmma Congreve\, Deputy Director at the Fraser of Allander Institute\, will focus on contemporary debates in Scotland\, including the possible introduction of a land value tax. \nBooking details for the event will be made available soon.
